Sorry this is getting to you a bit later than normal ..this month has been running away with itself!
First and foremost, this months exciting get-together 😀
Plant a daff for your mum!
October brings the first of a two-part Mothers day green walk special! Come along this Sunday 21st, for a lovely amble along Truro River to Boscowen Park and plant a daff dedicated to your mum which we’ll then re-visit on a special Mothers Day walk on March 10th 2013. Might seem like a long way off but to show your mum the daff you planted for her, bulbs need to be tucked on before the Winter. Fentongollen bulb Farm have kindly sponsored all the bulbs for the event – 400 in total, which means LOTS of flowers to dedicate to lots of mums so do spread the word to friends and family – all welcome! With bulb planting season on us, it’s also a great chance to learn a bit about bulbs and how to plant them with a local gardening expert on hand to take us through the do’s and don’ts. All tools provided. Event totally free! Make sure to wear sensible clothes. You can RSVP via the event page on facebook too. Meeting at Truro Cathedral at 2pm, back for 4pm. If this is your first green walk, you’ll need to fill out a walking for heath questionnaire pop, so if you could pop along a bit before 2 to get this out of the way that’d be great. Hope to see you on Sunday! 😀
Fancy an evening of green glitz and glamour??
We’ve been invited along to the Cornwall in Bloom awards this Thursday 18th at the Eden Project.
If you’d like to come along to represent truro green walks, there are still some spaces left! Should be a fun evening, a chance to hear about inspiring projects and meet like-minded people across the county and enjoy a cheeky drink or two! If you’d like to go, let me know asap and I’ll get your name down.
Become a Green Walks walk leader.
Fancy joining Martin, Jeremy and I as a volunteer walk leader for green walks?? Tis a great way of getting some fab experience volunteering as part of a local community project and not only that but you’ll get full training and certification as walk leader under the Walking for Heath Scheme which looks great on our wall and the CV. Annnd did I mention you’ll get your very own stylish green walks t-shirt! If interested, ping me an email for more info or come and chat on Sunday. I’ll need to know by next Monday 22nd Oct to make sure you’ll get a space on the next training day which will take place in St.Austell on November 1st.
In other greenery…
Unveiling and Gardening Party event.
Mayor of Truro, Lindsey Southcombe, will be officially unveiling the fantastic new Friends of Furniss Island community noticeboard this Saturday 20th at 11am. The unveiling will be followed by a Gardening Party on the Plant your Park community growing plot. Main activities for the afternoon will be tidying up and putting the border to bed for the winter. Gardening experts will also be on hand, making this a great opportunity to pick up some tips and techniques for getting your own garden ready for the Winter! We’ll be doing a wee bit of planting too to fill a few gaps so if you’ve got any spare plants you’d like to give a new home to – let me know. All tools provided, just bring yourself.
Rightio that’s it for now,
Natter soon 🙂
